What is Photomonitoring™?

PhotoMonitoring™ is an advanced monitoring technology developed by NHAZCA for analysis and control of property and assets.

PhotoMonitoring™ was developed in response to the growing need for real-time land and structure monitoring solutions. This system is based on the analysis of images acquired by various ground, airborne and satellite sensors and platforms.

The photographic heritage, in many cases already available or easily acquired thanks to the now widespread use of consumer photographic equipment, offers enormous potential for your analysis and professional activities.

This new survey methodology is based on a set of advanced image processing algorithms, such as digital image correlation and change detection, to detect changes and displacements with sub-pixel accuracy.

PhotoMonitoring™ for Tunnel Convergences Monitoring

PhotoMonitoring™ for Tunnel Convergences Monitoring is an innovative and cost-effective product for monitoring existing or new tunnels.
By periodically acquiring images from one or more observation points, displacements of the tunnel interior can be measured over time using a temporal (time series of displacements at each visible point in the image) and spatial (full-field displacement maps to reconstruct the entire deformation field) approach.

PhotoMonitoring™ for rockfall counter and mapping

Rockfall counter and mapping is useful for monitoring rock slopes or escarpments at risk of collapse. By periodically acquiring images from one or more observation points, collapse events, even small ones, can be detected, mapped and quantified to identify the most vulnerable parts of the slope.

PhotoMonitoring™ makes it possible to obtain detailed maps of the distribution and frequency of collapse phenomena, supporting the definition of appropriate preventive or defensive measures, improving safety in areas at risk and promoting a better understanding of the dynamics of rock collapse.  

The system can be configured for full remote management.

PhotoMonitoring™ for landslide rapid mapping

PhotoMonitoring™ for landslide rapid mapping is an innovative, relatively cost-effective solution for monitoring the stability of a slope or escarpment affected by landslide events.

Using strategically placed cameras, the system captures high-resolution images from one or more observation points to monitor ground movement and map changes over time.

As a result, this non-invasive method provides a timely and detailed assessment of ground changes, detecting deformations and relevant movements through advanced digital image processing.

IRIS: the PhotoMonitoring platform

Images and measurements are processed in IRIS, the proprietary software designed and developed by NHAZCA for geomorphological, geotechnical and structural monitoring, in its Terrestrial, Aerial and Satellite configurations. Processing runs on the platform’s servers: no software to install, no desktop licences, no dedicated workstation.
IRIS Terrestrial processes images from ground-based cameras to measure surface displacements and changes on landslides, rock faces, structures and tunnels. IRIS Aerial works on drone imagery, for repeated surveys in hard-to-reach areas. IRIS Satellite analyses panchromatic and hyperspectral satellite imagery to track changes of the Earth’s surface over wide areas and long time spans, supporting monitoring plans and engineering projects.
